Day 1: Arrival in Chengdu and Cultural Evening
Fly into Chengdu, Sichuan’s laid-back capital. Take the afternoon to visit the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding or enjoy a walk in a local park. Have a vegetarian hotpot dinner and prepare for the journey into the highlands.
Day 2: Scenic Transfer to Jiuzhaigou Valley
Travel by road or flight to Jiuzhaigou. The drive winds through river gorges, Tibetan settlements, and alpine forests. Settle into an eco-lodge or locally-run guesthouse near the park entrance. Enjoy a quiet evening and acclimatize to the elevation.
Day 3: Northern Jiuzhaigou – Long Lake and Five-Colored Pool
Enter the park early via eco-shuttle. Explore the Long Lake, surrounded by snow-tipped peaks, and the famously vibrant Five-Colored Pool, whose mineral-rich waters create a natural kaleidoscope. Use wooden walkways to explore at your own pace. Picnic with zero-waste meals.
Day 4: Central Valley – Nuorilang Waterfall and Tibetan Culture
Visit the Nuorilang Waterfall, one of the widest in China, and explore the lush valley below. Stop at eco-education centers and small Tibetan villages within the buffer zone. Learn about local beliefs tied to nature and sustainable herding practices.
Day 5: Southern Valley – Forest Walks and Quiet Lakes
Walk along the quieter trails of the southern section, including Mirror Lake and Tiger Lake. Spot birds and wildflowers along the forest route. In the afternoon, take part in a short community-led craft workshop or a Tibetan herbal tea session.
Day 6: Huanglong National Park Day Trip
Take a full-day trip to nearby Huanglong Scenic Area, known for its colorful travertine pools, alpine landscapes, and rare orchids. Hike through its highland forests and enjoy panoramic views from over 3,000 meters. Return to Jiuzhaigou for the night.
Day 7: Return to Chengdu and Departure
Travel back to Chengdu. If time allows, visit a local market or temple. Depart from Chengdu with a deeper connection to China’s mountain ecosystems and Tibetan cultural traditions.
